There is a spot in my town called el cementerio viejo (the old cemetery) and during the rainy season it floods and in the dry season it's a gorgeous view of pastures and mountains. Since the rainy season just ended, the water has dried enough for us to hike a small hill and sit with this view. Last week we got the news that El Salvador's Peace Corps program would be suspended. A group of local friends who took me in as family threw me a goodbye today and took me to this spot to eat pasteles (local food) and watch the sunset. It's been heartbreaking saying my goodbyes, but I'm leaving with memories of a lifetime.
