This photo was taken on May 31st, 2012 in Vanuatu, at a week-long workshop on HIV/AIDS for Ni-Vanuatu Village Health Workers (VHWs). VHWs live and work in the most remote areas of Vanuatu and face many challenges but often receive very little training. The goals of this workshop were to train these VHWs from around Vanuatu in knowledge on HIV/AIDS; to offer them tools, ideas, activities and resources which they can take back to their home communities and use to effectively carry out HIV awareness and prevention programs; and to motivate and empower the VHWs to take active roles in HIV prevention. Interviews with myself (the PCVL for the event) and several of the participants were aired along with a story about the workshop on the national radio station and the footage of the interviews as well as footage from our workshop were also shown on the national television channel. This group photo and an article also appeared in the national newspaper.
