International Day of the Girl Child at GWU

On Friday, Oct. 9, Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet, Millennium Challenge Corporation CEO Dana J. Hyde, USAID Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Susan Markham, and U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Catherine M. Russell will come together with local students to discuss the government-wide Let Girls Learn initiative and the importance of girls’ education worldwide at an event celebrating the International Day of the Girl.

The speakers will be joined by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter from Benin Angelique Kidjo. Kidjo is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and founder of The Batonga Foundation, which empowers young women and girls in Africa through secondary school and higher education.

This event will include photo and interview opportunities.
