Armenia

Arsen Simonyan took this photo at the conclusion of our GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) camp in Armenia. The camp took place from July 1, 2014 until July 7, 2014 in the town of Stepanavan, Lori Marz. Mr. Simonyan is the president of the Stepanavan Youth Center which partnered with Peace Corps volunteers to coordinate the camp. The theme of GLOW this year was Hollywood. Very often images of Hollywood can cause women to lose self esteem and have a negative self image. We used the theme of Hollywood to empower young girls in Armenia to always remember that they have all the beauty, strength, and light of a shooting star. The girls who participated in the camp form the structure of the star in the photo with their light blue shirts. The junior Armenian councilors, who are GLOW alumni, begin the dark blue offshoot of the tail. The Armenian and Peace Corps councilors, dressed in orange, act as the fire igniting the shooting star and giving it strength to soar.
