PCV Samual Turner, 26, of Detroit, Michigan teaches a welding class at the Jidhafs Secondary School outside of Manama. Turner joined PC on a two-year leave of absence from his job as a welder with the Detroit Department of Transportation. He spent his first year of Peace Corps service as a welding instructor at the Manama Secondary School, then transferred to the Jidhafs school because he preferred working with the rural youngsters who attend there. 304 youths attend the Jidhafs school; about 70 take the three-year welding program. Turner, a Bahraini earned his certificate in welding at the old McNamara Skill Center in Detroit, served in the Army, and worked for the Detroit transportation for about a year before joining PC.
