This photo was taken early in my service in 2001 in the tiny village of San Miguelito del Sur, Bolivia. José, the little boy I am holding was the youngest of six and lived close to me. When I first arrived he was extremely shy around me but followed me everywhere. After a few months he finally let me hold him and this photo was taken. After this moment he was with me constantly and would cry when I had to go teach at the school. Many a night we swung in the hammock and sang and laughed. Although this photo doesn't show my projects or an important event, it was defining for me personally.
