Burkina Faso

I have a creativity club for pre-school/kindergarden-aged children where we do activities to encourage creativity, independence, and outside-the-box thinking. In Burkina Faso the education system is based largely on a system of memorization, and creative thinking is not encouraged. I have taken advantage of my position living with a family to give the young children a chance to expand their way of thinking in hopes that it will give them a head start when they begin primary school. For this particular activity, I wrote the words "Mam Nonga" on a large sheet of butcher paper ("Mam Nonga" means "I love" in the local language, Moore) and brainstormed with the children about things that they loved. I brought out bowls of finger paints and asked the kids to paint pictures of the things we had talked about.
