Cameroon
Lost Sister In Cameroon, no one dies from AIDS- at least according to the Cameroonians who live outside the metropolitan areas. They die of the flu or pneumonia or even "sorcery"- but often it is in fact AIDS that has weakened their systems. No one has enough money or much cares to do a blood test to find the real reason someone passes. The mourning period is too important and must begin right away. This photo was taken at a deuil, or mourning ceremony, in the outskirts of Bandjoun, Cameroon in August 2004 for a woman who died of "sorcery." The people in the photo include her sister (who is holding her photo), brothers and mother.
