Ethiopia
I took this photo during an 8 day, HIV/AIDS-focused home-based care training in Mekaneselam, Ethiopia. Fifteen caregivers were trained using a Peace Corps VAST grant to provide home-based care to people living with HIV/AIDS in rural Ethiopia. This photo captures two caregivers in training learning to provide proper wound care. Because HIV weakens the immune system, sanitary care of minor cuts and scrapes is important to prevent infections and maintain patient health. The caregivers would use this training on wound care to clean and dress minor cuts for patients living with HIV/AIDS in their community.
