"Inviting the world to the table" was nearly impossible for me to pick just one picture of the glorious food from my time as a PCV in Fiji! LIfe revolved around food! My best memories involve planting, catching, cooking, and eating with my friends and family in my small village. Here, this was the first of my many farewell meals as I ended my service. The Catholic group from my 100-person village prepared this feast featuring all of my favorite foods. In traditional style, the women prepare the table and food and sit at the end to serve it. Men, elders, and guests (in this case, me) sit at the head, from where I am taking the picture. I was always humbled to have that special place. I stuffed myself silly during this lunchtime meal and we laughed, cried, and reflected on my time there. Featured in the photo is Kiri, a good friend (and excellent English speaker) and a mentor to me. I can still taste the crab, coconut milk, and greens!
