Ghana

This photo was taken during the unveiling of an HIV prevention mural painted in 2008 in collaboration with the students from Kongo SS in the Upper East Region of Ghana. This was the culmination of a six week project focused on collaboration between local and international NGOs and Ghanaian teachers to teach secondary school students how to prevent HIV. The students developed and painted the mural and, as seen in this photo, gave explanations in the local languages using the images shown in the mural on how to prevent HIV to the villagers - from the Chief down to the smallest children. Youth Visions was the first PEPFAR/US Peace Corps HIV prevention project to be funded in Ghana. The video documentary on the Youth Visions project was shown throughout Ghana when the Volunteers involved in the project returned to Ghana in 2010.
