My main focus was to assist desilt Latta Dam. My duties ranged from working directly with the Health Workers to remove silt using basic hand tools, to documenting and helping my Public Health Officer submit proposals to acquire assistance from other organizations, including acquiring an excavator through APHIA PLUS. In the end, we restored the dam from holding 15,000 cubic liters to holding 160,000 liters. Now the health workers are using the water to cultivate land surrounding the dam, and here I am demonstrating after months of blisters and blunders my use of the jembe to remove the root an old tree for cultivation. Little successes here in Sagalla have finally led to larger ones.
