Kyrgyz Republic
A Kyrgyz Yurt in a Snow Storm Peace Corps takes you to some far-out places. This is me, posing in front of a yurt during a blizzard. The yurt was about four miles above a small village in eastern Kyrgyzstan called Ichkey-Jergez, nestled in the foothills of the Terskey Ala-Too range of the Tien Shan mountains. "Tien Shan" translates as "Mountains of Heaven," and that is exactly how it felt on this day. After the storm broke, we were rewarded with an inspiring and brilliant sunset that bathed Ichkey-Jergez in cool light, far below. We stayed in the yurt for a week. Those are ibex horns on display above the door.
