This is one of my favorite photos from my Peace Corps experience. I was getting my hair done by my host sister, Azziza, in Debaye Hijaj, Mauritania. The baby sitting with me was named Meghan after me! I was an agroforestry volunteer but very few things successfully grew there, so after my first year I realized that what they really wanted was to have some of the young women in the village get trained as midwives so I switched my focus to finding the resources and networks to make that happen.
