This Photo is SPA related for the category SPA IN ACTION This photo was taken on an island in the Gulf of California about 50 km off the Nayarit coast, Mexico, in October 2011. CONANP Isla Isabel is the office in charge of protecting the biodiversity of this island. Using a SPA grant, a monitoring methodology was established and equipment was purchased to photomonitor and map breeding seabird populations. This photograph shows a counterpart from the CONANP office in the process of locating a site for photomonitoring. Nesting and courting brown booby (Sula leucogaster ) are in the foreground. Flying above are frigatebirds (Fregata magnificens) and Hermann´s gull (Larus heermannii), a species listed for special protection. The seabird populations are rebounding following CONANP's successful efforts to eradicate cats and rats from the island.
