Safe sex or No Sex College of Micronesia (Chuuk Campus) students during the first-ever World AIDS Day parade on the island of Weno on December 1, 2000. Discussing sensitive topics such as sex, AIDS, and condoms is frowned upon, so the fact that these young people organized, produced materials, and got their friends together to go out in public to promote AIDS awareness was very gratifying. I had been teaching them about HIV/AIDS for a few weeks as part of their curriculum, and they decided that the island should know more about AIDS and safe sex. The rain let up just before we set out on our route, starting up again as we finished.
