Mozambique

I took this photo at the 2013 Feira de Ciencia e Prevencao de HIV/SIDA Nacional (National Science and Prevention of HIV/AIDS Fair) in Mozambique on Sept. 14, 2013, which is made possible by a collaboration between the Mozambican Ministry of Science and Technology and Mozambican Peace Corps Volunteers. In the photo, Delane Cristina Feliciano, a female 11th Grade student from Namapa, Nampula is explaining her science project, "Distillacao de Agua Salgada" (Distillation of Salt Water) to a Peace Corps Volunteer and National Coordinator of Science Fair, Matthew Jordan. After the picture was taken, Matt turned to me with grinning from ear to ear and said, "Her excitement about applying science to solve a community issue reminds me why I studied Environmental Engineering and we enabled her to take the first step in making her future scientific dreams a reality; the hard work pays off!"
