Photo was taken on the 18th of August, 1963 just minutes before Janet (nee: Driggs) and I got married iin the Columbia U's Chapel. Jan is on my left, in white dress. Our Brides Maid, Susan (nee: Conway), another volunteer, is on my right.Jan and I met on the first day of training. Iinvited her to have a beer with me at the West End Bar, a nearby favorite, local hangout for enrolled students. We had a nice evening. I asked to out for the next few nights, same place, same drink. I liked what I saw, what heard and what I felt. On the 6th night, I asked her to marry me. "I'll have to think about that" Washer reply. The next night I asked again. To my surprise, she said yes, affirming everyone's assumption in those days that, indeed, the Peace Corps was the best matrimonial agency around. Of all the "life-defining" situations that our PC experience present us, this, perhaps, was the most impressive. We will be celebrating our 51st anniversity in two weeks.
