Ceremonial swearing in for Jody Olsen to be the 20th Director of Peace Corps. The event was held on April 19, 2018 at the Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, DC. Guests of honor included Ms. Olsen’s family; Secretary of Transportation and 12th Peace Corps Director Elaine Chao; Senator Harris Woffard; former Peace Corps Directors Nick Craw, Mark Schneider, Ron Tschetter and Aaron Williams; Ambassador Joan Polashcik, the State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs; Patrick Murphy, the State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southeast Asia; Sean Doocey, Deputy Assistant to the President and Director for Presidential Personnel; Katja Bullock, Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director for Presidential Personnel; Matthew Flynn, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director of Cabinet Affairs; Alex Erwin from Congressman Garret Graves’ staff; Glen Blumhorst, President of the National Peace Corps Association; and Ann Baker, Vice President of the National Peace Corps Association. The National Anthem was performed by Peace Corps staff member Anthony Sumlin. Opening remarks were made by Joel Frushone, Associate Director for External Affairs. Remarks were made by Secretary Chao who then administered the Oath of Office. Ms. Olsen’s daughter Kirsten Andersen accompanied her mother and held the Bible.
