Panama

I took this photograph of a boy playing the snare drum on November 3, 2011 during an Independence Day Parade in Casco Viejo, Panamá. In the month of November, Panamanians celebrate independence from both Colombia and Spain. Panamá was under Spanish rule until 1821 and a part of the Republic of Gran Colombia until 1903. Panamanians celebrate their independence with parades that include various indigenous groups, marching bands, and armed forces. Parades display Panamá's unique traditions and culture.
