This photo was taken at an HIV and AIDS prevention education workshop in Asuncion, Paraguay. The presenter is a professional educator who works with the National Secretariat of Children and Adolescents and had been working with this particular audience for over a year. The audience on this day was a group of police cadets, this being the first precinct to be specially trained in various sensitivity trainings that included use of force, how to respond to domestic disturbances and child abuse cases. The presenter is showing the elements of discrimination that leads to policies and infringements of the human rights of persons living with HIV (for example having to provide and HIV negative test to your employer, being forced to leave your job or school because of your HIV status, etc). The hope is that this specialized group can serve as a role model for the nation and that more police officers can be trained in these areas in the future.
