St.Lucia has been historically fought over for many years. "Seven times British, seven times French" it is referred to as "the Helen of the West". Although governed by many forces St.Lucia finally earned it's independence February 1979. In this photo, my first graders at Balata Primary School and I, are celebrating the 35th anniversary of Lucian independence. And following tradition, are wearing the colors of the flag: Blue, gold, black and white. This was my first Independence Day that I celebrated with my students and the enthusiasm and pride for their country was absolutely contagious!
