PCVs Gil and Becky Makus live and work on the island of St. Lucia in the West Indies. For 20 years, the Makuses operated a farm near Lake Stevens, Washington. Then the economic squeeze forced them off the farm in 1966 and Gil became a power lineman. But they "always wanted to get back into agriculture" and have through Peace Corps. Gil works at Union Agriculture Station in the development of citrus trees and their distribution. Becky works for the Nutrition Department and has been giving demonstration lessons in schools and has worked with a community garden project.
