I took this photo in June 2012 at La Ressource Combined school in St. Lucia. After seeing the HIV/AIDS awareness pin that I keep on my bag, a couple of grade 5 boys were interested in what it stood for. I came to find out that they knew very little about HIV/AIDS. I decided to sit them down and discuss it with them. The discussion was quite informal and I chose to focus more on stigma and discrimination because of their age and lack of knowledge. I wrote 'hate,' 'discrimination' and 'stigma' on the board, put my pin on the boys, and had them imagine what it would be like to face all those things on a daily basis. This informal session led to discussions with faculty about having more formal HIV/AIDS education in our school.
