Tanzania

This photo was taken on World AIDS Day 2012 in a village next to my Peace Corps village in Tanzania. The participants were members of the HIV group MASUPHA in my village. We were marching to raise awareness of the HIV problem in the region of Tanzania in which I lived, which has the highest HIV rate in the country. The marchers sang inspirational songs while walking through several villages. They were wearing Peace Corps khangas, traditional cloth which wrap around the body, and were made by Peace Corps Tanzania to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps and the 50th year since Peace Corps had started in Tanzania. After the march, there was a gathering where members of the HIV group, doctors, and other village officials gave speeches to inform and address the problem of HIV.
