Ukraine

On an early Sunday morning in Ukraine, Sept. 2011, early in my pre-service training I went for a walk to get my bearings and my check out my new host city. . The Peace Corps has three goals: 1.To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women. 2.To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the people served. 3.To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans. The first phrase I learned in Russian was "I'm sorry, I don't understand." The word "understand" became so important to me so quickly in my service. Then I saw this and knew right away that I was in the right place. From my journal: "Fate, God, the universe, or just some kid with a rattle can. I don’t know how it got there, but it’s there; a sign that I’m in the right place at the right time. I’m so excited about what else is going to happen in the next 27 months." I loved every day of those 27 months.
