Guinea
A moment captured by community economic development Volunteer Hilary Braseth of fellow secondary education Volunteer Christina at the "Pont de Dieu," a natural bridge in Dalaba, Guinea. “God's Bridge” offers a serene getaway among fields and forest for reading and reflecting to the sound of water flowing. On this day, the two Volunteers were accompanied by curious youth; a familiar scene for most Guinea Volunteers. Braseth caught a moment which exemplifies the importance of every Volunteer’s service – the day-to-day interaction, recognition and warm spirit that Volunteers share with Guinean youth. While Christina's role as a teacher allows her to educate through the formal system, education is also channeled through informal yet significant interactions such as this. Although these moments will not show up in a report, it is this connection that allows Guinean youth to understand the world from a different perspective and develop motivation and hope for their future.
