Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone

In 1989 USAID provided support (via Food For Work) to teach aquaculture in Makrugba, Sierra Leone. The war destroyed everything, but not the knowledge left behind. 25 years later, the region developed 33 ponds on their own, using the knowledge left behind to rebuild their lives. This photo was taken in 2008 when I returned, expecting devastation and finding hope, growth and prosperity.
