Standing in front of our hand made South African flag This photo was taken on March 12, 2010, in the last weeks of my service. We are in the Kids Center building 30 miles from South Africa. The children in the picture were in the 8th grade and had just completed handwritten thank you notes to all of my friends and family who contributed to the Books for Africa library project in our village. We are standing in front of a mural of the South African flag that was completed as part of the final activity of our PEPFAR funded LifeSkills group. Each of the 50 orphans who attended the Kids Center for meals and additional support participated in making the flag by dipping their hands in paint colors that corresponded with the appropriate colors of the flag and leaving their hand print.
