Each year Peace Corps Volunteers in The Gambia organize a “Literacy Bike Trek.” It’s a traveling workshop for teachers to discuss and practice using printed materials in their lessons. In 2015 there were 6 different teams of volunteers that reached 29 different schools and 239 different teachers. PCV Jacy Bowman introduces a read aloud competition between teachers in her school during Peace Corps The Gambia’s Literacy Bike Trek project. During the workshop in their school, PCVs and teachers explored books in the library that Jacy helped to organize and paint. - International Literacy Day
