After three months of training from professional psychologists, students at a school for the deaf in Ukraine learned new methods for communicating as well as practical skills for assimilating into society after graduation--a difficult task for anyone with a disability in Ukraine, due to negative social stigma. After the three months of training, the students attended a seminar about Volunteerism conducted by myself. Immediately after the seminar, the students participated in a Service Learning Project where they put Volunteerism into action by beautifying their schoolyard. The deaf students were joined in their beautifcation efforts by non-deaf student volunteers from a local business college, with whom the deaf students had a chance to practice their newfound communication and assimilation skills.
