Zambia

My husband took this photo on my last day of my Crisis Corps assignment, on March 28, 2005, in the site clinic in Zambia. I was standing in my shared office, which was served as a base for incorporating an HIV prevention component into CCF programs and as a resource center for HIV-positive & prevention materials. I am standing with a nurse, who was technically retired, but walked her 80-year-old-self daily to volunteer as head nurse at the clinic to administer immunizations and provide general counsel for this health center-less location. She was the heart and soul of this program; she had knitted me the hat I am wearing as a going away gift. She and I worked in tandem to guide the many HIV-positive individuals to services and shared many laughs, cries & sighs over lunch. She passed in 2008 at the age of 83, but left the entire community with her love and devotion. Her smile is unforgettable.
