PCV, James Barker, 27, (white jacket, tie and glasses) teaches English classes, twice each day, to 200 students at the Nangrahar University Medical School in Jalalabad. Since all his students are studying to become doctors, Barker makes his English course as relevant to their needs as possible. "Let's learn Medical English," a book written by a former PCV, is Barker's main teaching tool, since it was noted a few years ago that many of the Afghan medical students studying under American doctors and using English textbooks were failing to pass their courses.
