Christina Avanyan, English teacher, Dilijan State College with students in NEW ENGLISH CLASSROOM, March, 2013 Photo, March, 2013, is of a re-furnished classroom in Armenia but more importantly, it is a picture of students as they begin to use the textbooks and materials purchased by the SPA grant awarded to PCV and counterpart English teacher. With these materials and books, for the first time, these students , ages 14-21, have access to current, age-appropriate learning materials to study English. The project provides materials for the teacher to use for years to come. Previously she has had nothing but copies of Russian/English text from the 50's. Capacity building happens as students become better able to compete in the job market in Armenia and the world.. Included are also CD's for independent study and listening exercises, dictionaries and supplemental reading materials to encourage reading as a leisure activity in students who never engaged in such. Students expressed pleasure with these books and soon showed more interest in their language class.
