The American ambassador to Cameroon visited Oku in late 1980/early 1981. The Peace Corps Volunteers from Kumbo visited with him. This was one of my territories for agricultural extension work. I set up the visit details. The Ambassador was shown the local agricultural training center and visited the fon at his palace. This photo was taken just before the visit with the local gendarme in front of the palace. This photo shows the history as compared to google earth tour guide photo of the Oku fon's palace. The offering bowls on the ground were to honor the spirits of the place.
