Colombia
Photo was taken in May, 1963 in Colombia, as my Peace Corps day were coming to an end. Pictured are my Colombian counterpart and myself, helping build a one-room schoolhouse with living quarters for teacher. For such projects, the Coffee Federation or the government would donate basic building materials-cement, tin roofing,rebar-and locals, in a series of community work-days, would make bricks, using nearby sand and gravel, and then proceed to erect a school, where before there had been none. With communities making such a significant contribution, more infrastructure could be built with the limited funds available.
