Colombia
Our 1966 site in Colombia along the Ecuadorian border only had a week-end telegraph for communication. Sylvia traveled into Bogota for a medical check-up with pregnancy like symptoms promising to be secretive in telegraphing any test results. A positive result was unlikely as after 3 years of marriage and before entering the Peace Corps we learned that she could not become pregnant. 1st telegraph - rabbit died? A mystery to me. second day telegraph - test positive! Later the mystery explained - rabbit died, had to take the test over the next day. Baby Leslie born 4-25-67 in Cali University Hospital and we 3 returned to a larger site in Buga for daily bathing, and to finish out our tour. As an aside, once back in site Leslie was fortunate to pass an early inspection by the neighborhood ladies - no evil eye, in fact judged lucky as she had a double crown.
