Ethiopia

I took this photo during an 8 day, HIV/AIDS-focused home-based care training in Mekaneselam, Ethiopia. Fifteen caregivers were trained using a Peace Corps VAST grant to provide home-based care to people living with HIV/AIDS in rural Ethiopia. Nutrition is a major factor in the health of people living with HIV/AIDS, and often rural Ethiopians living with HIV do not have adequate amounts of food, especially vegetables. As part of the program, caregivers received seeds to plant in a garden. They grew tomatoes, carrots, onions, potatoes and peppers to provide to clients in need of food support. This photo captures me with one of the caregivers on a site visit, in the potato garden they had planted.
