Ethiopia

I took this photo during an 8 day, HIV/AIDS-focused home-based care training in Mekaneselam, Ethiopia. Fifteen caregivers were trained using a Peace Corps VAST grant to provide home-based care to people living with HIV/AIDS in rural Ethiopia. Nutrition is an important factor in the health of people living with HIV/AIDS, and a major struggle for many rural Ethiopians. As part of the home-based care project, we provided seeds to the caregivers to grow potatoes, onions, carrots, tomatoes, and peppers. These vegetables could be provided to patients in need of food support. This photo captures 6 of the caregivers standing in the onion patch they planted.
