This photo was taken in March, 2014 at the soccer fields. Girls don't play soccer in Kyrgyzstan, because it's considered a "man's sport". I can't explain in 800 characters the gender equality issues that Kyrgyzstan faces, but I can tell you that one of my goals here is to empower girls by teaching them how to play soccer. This is the first girls team created in the Village. Building confidence in these girls so they can have the courage to play against "the boys" and beating them brings nothing but a smile to my face!
