Liberia

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014 students piled in through the doors of Lango Lippay High School ready to attend a normal day. As they began filing in through the school doors, they were told to congregate outside the classrooms for a school announcement. With heavy hearts and tear filled eyes, the students were told that Peace Corps would be leaving Liberia due to Ebola. We were given an hour to say goodbye to our students and took the time to talk about Ebola. Students were afraid, uneducated about the disease, yet hopeful and empowered. One student began writing on the board to calm the students, it read "Ebola is a disease that can be prevented by taking preventative measures." At this moment, with tears running down my face, I knew that they would be the change Liberia desperately needs. The students of today will be the bright future of tomorrow.
