Mozambique

A Village I was serving as an Education Volunteer in Mozambique, teaching 8, 9, and 10 grade English and Computer Literacy classes. But my passions have always surrounded me with young children, elementary aged and below. After assessing the need for an early childhood development program in my town, I used a PCPP grant and worked together with community officials to build a community pre-school. When we ran out of cement bricks to finish building our school house I gathered up 17 of my closest little friends and asked them each to transport a brick. The kids jumped at the chance to help and together we walked the half mile to buy the extra 17 bricks and then walked back to the soon-to-be pre-school to deliver them. In this photo the kids are approaching the primary school campus. The pre-school, which sits at the foot of the primary school, reached its full capacity of 40 students in its first year and continues to function at full capacity since my service ended in April 2014.
