Namibia

This photo is was taken at Uukwiyuushona Combined School on the 28th of June 2012 during HIV/AIDS Awareness Week, established by the government of Namibia. This photo was organized with the theme of reducing and eliminating stigma and discrimination. Our school has a sadly very high rate of orphaned and vulnerable children, many due to HIV/AIDS. Any learner who was affected by HIV/AIDS could volunteer themselves to make a human ribbon to represent the red HIV/AIDS ribbon. By doing this at school in front of the entire school community of over 600 people, the learners succeeded in making HIV/AIDS less stigmatized and hidden by stepping forward proudly to simultaneously fighting discrimination and HIV/AIDS.
