What do a Condom, A Pool Stick and A Cucumber Have in Common? They can all be used to teach about HIV! In celebration of World AIDS Day this past December 1st, my Nicaraguan Ministry of Health counterpart and I organized a pool tournament. In between each round of games we gave short talks on what is HIV, the difference between HIV and AIDS, how it is and how it is not transmitted and, most importantly, prevention. We ended the event with a condom demonstration. In this photo you can see a man putting a condom on a cucumber, while his fellow billiards players watch. There was a huge amount of participation during the actual tournament and during the HIV talks.
