Faculty residences at Aggrey Memorial College, Arochukwu Nigeria 1964 Aggrey Memorial College was 70 miles from the nearest paved road when I arrived. In 1963 it was the oldest private secondary school in West Africa, founded in 1933 by Ivan Ikoku, who was principal as well as owner. He lived in the same small house as all the faculty, with large palms and mango trees. Students played football (soccer) on the field in front of the houses.
