Sierra Leone
As a teacher at the Technical Institute in Kenema, Eastern Province, I was able to start a softball team. The students picked up the skills needed in no time, and added their own dexterity at moving the ball with their feet, sometimes faster and more accurately than with their arms. The Peace Corps provided funds for the softballs, the school provided the field, and the students provided the interest and enthusiasm. When playing other schools in Kenema or nearby, we walked. I taught there from 1967 - 1969. I'm sure I learned more than I taught.
