Sierra Leone

I was a teacher in Kenema at the Technical Institute, living in staff housing (cement block) with lots of openings for animals to make themselves at home. One day, while talking to a student, both of us sitting at a table, he suddenly grabbed my arm and rapidly dragged me out of the room and out of the house. He saw the green mamba under the table. He got help from others and they got the snake to leave. He was not about to do battle with it on his own. The house always had lots of geckos, flies, and other creatures, so the snake had a choice of menu items. Since I'm colorblind, I never noticed the snake before! I did try to keep any vegetation away from the door, so the path to the house would be less welcoming to the reptile population.
