How village mamas became clothing designers This photo was taken in November, 2009 in the rural Tanzanian village of Mhaji. The mama's group was composed of seven village women who made their living as subsistence farmers. This was one of our first 'design sessions' where the women took take turns painting hot wax with stencils on the fabric. Their confidence quickly grew and in no time they were free-styling gorgeous drawings.
