Benin

I took this photo on July 2, 2014. This photograph shows the flooding of a road that leads out of my village and women crossing it. The road is located at the lowest point between two plateaus. When I began my service in 2012, the road would often have puddles, but as time went on the flooding got worse and worse and the water ceased to recede. People would often ask me to help them fix the road, but it was out of my scope of expertise. This was a life-defining moment for me because it brought home the reality that no matter how much of an impact I may have had on my village, there would still always be work to do, especially dealing with the infrastructure of Benin.
