This city larger than any city where I came from and it became my first African cultural experience. As a student of photography, this would be my first opportunity to study another culture – its people, architecture and its environs. There was quite a difference in the quality of life for the people. My favorite subject was street scenes where I could photograph ordinary people who struggled to live and who aspired to a better life. These three girls came from Bushrod Island to market food on the streets of Monrovia. I could not immerse myself in their private lives but photographing them helped to make them feel good about themselves. each other.
